When I was still employed by the publisher Rommerskirchen GmbH & Co.KG, my colleagues used a publisher software which goes by the name Verdis, developed by the company DataPrint in Bonn, to manage our subscribers and clients.
So it went that that company closed down and we thus stopped receiving updates. A new software had to take the old one’s place. After looking into different systems from entirely different manufacturers, my supervisor asked me why we could not simply develop such a system ourselves. And that is exactly what we did. We chose the acronym “RinD” as its name because we found it funny as it translates to “cattle” and literally stands for “Rommerskirchen is not DataPrint”. RinD was mostly developed with C++ and wxWidgets as well as DBMS PostgreSQL.
In addition to the publisher program, we had other side dishes. I developed an interface for our financial administration “EuroFibu” of the company Syska in Java. We had an extensive administration program (the shepherd), two e-paper systems (for the magazines “journalist” and “prmagazin”) which were also developed in C++, a synchronization software for the e-paper systems (going by the name farmer) in C++ and shop systems developed with wxWidgets that were automatically matched with RinD. Later on, the job board “journalistjobs.de” joined their ranks.
RinD included a large amount of modules. Besides the master data for subscribers and other clients it furthermore contained requests, credit memo, subscriptions, fees and countless other things.
I have developed, conceptualized, implemented and introduced the majority of this software.
