About me

Hello everyone and welcome to my little website,

I would like to make a short introduction. My name is Thorsten Geppert. I have been a software developer and system administrator for more than 25 years. I was born 1979 in Troisdorf, which is quite charming, but now, together with my wife and children, I live in the countryside, to be more specific in Birkenbeul.

My hobbies and my profession have been shaped by my childhood. At the age of six, I got my hands on my first console, an Atari 2600, on which I, for the most part, played Pac-Man and Pitfall. At eight I then got my Schneider CPC464, with which I had my first go at programming/scripting in BASIC. When I was ten the Amiga 500 entered my room and brought along many months filled with fun, usually with friends or other computer games which are rightly considered as classics nowadays. At the age of 13 I then, unfortunately, got a PC with MS-DOS, sometimes Windows 3.11 and later Windows 95 followed by NT. Then I switched to Linux (all kinds of distributions, but Gentoo for many years), later to FreeBSD, which I used as my main platform on my desktop computer (along with a MacBook Pro) for more than ten years. I now work primarily on Macs in the client area and with FreeBSD in the server area.

I snapped a picture of my workplace. I apologize for the chaos, but sadly that’s how my space looks (:. Unfortunately I also didn’t clean before taking the picture.

When I’m not looking after my family or working, I like to get on my motorbike. At the moment, I ride a Yamaha Virago 750.

That’s it about me. If you have any questions, feel free to write me an E-Mail.

Kind regards,
